Obituary: Fannie Mae Brazier

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Fannie Mae Brazier,88, of Shawneetown, passed away at her home on Thursday, July 28, 2011.

She was born in Shawneetown on May 6, 1923, the daughter of William B. and Emily (Head) Dempsey. Fannie Mae was married on Feb. 21, 1942, to Burtis Brazier who preceded her in death on Aug. 27, 2001.

The majority of her life was spent in the Saline Mines community, where she and Burtis were known for their hospitality and fine cooking skills. Fannie was employed for a number of years at the Shawnee Cabinet factory. She was also the secretary of Bowlesville Township. Later in life, Fannie Mae volunteered as a cook at the Equality Christian Center School, where the students thoroughly enjoyed her homemade biscuits and gravy. She was a member of the Calvary Promise Church in Shawneetown.

Fannie Mae is survived by four daughters, Louise and Jim Howard, Betty Smith, Martha and William Vaughn, and Mary Sue McCabe all of Shawneetown; three sons, Harry and Judy Brazier, William and Jane Brazier and George and Pam Brazier, all of Shawneetown; four sisters-in-law, Gerry Davis, Wilma Dempsey, Dorthy Roller and Margie Cox; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sisters, Madeline Heath and Almira Collins; two brothers, Robert E. Dempsey and William Albert Dempsey Jr.; two sons-in-law, Ronnie McCabe and Millard Smith Jr.; and one grandson, Rick Smith.

Visitation for Fannie Mae will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 1, 2011, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown. Funeral service will be held at the funeral home at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2011. The Rev. James R. Hubbard will be officiating with burial at Westwood Cemetery near Shawneetown.
