Obituary: Lendell Ray Trammel
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lendell Ray Trammel, 78, of Harrisburg passed away at 3:04 p.m. Monday, July 18, 2011, at St. Mary's Medical Center in Evansville, Ind.
Lendell was born on Aug. 5, 1932, in Eldorado to the late Omer and Marie (Ellis) Trammel. On Nov. 26, 1965, he married Connie Rector, who survives.
Lendell worked for Trammel Propane as a truck driver and gas plant operator for many years. For the last several years he worked as a gas plant operator at Grayson Hill Energy where he was known as "The Gatekeeper."
Lendell was a born-again Christian who taught fifth grade Sunday school at Dorrisville Baptist Church for 17 years. He later became a member of Little Chapel Church, where he enjoyed his Wednesday Bible study class. He was an Army veteran serving in the Korean conflict, a member of the Harrisburg Hunters Club in Carrier Mills and the National Rifle Association. Lendell was a devoted husband, caring father, loving grandfather, and proud great-grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. He earned their admiration as he led them by example. Although he was a quiet man, he was eager to share his faith in his Lord Jesus Christ with everyone he met.
Surviving family members include his wife, Connie Trammel of Harrisburg; seven children, Cathy (Carroll) Keltner of Raleigh, Joel (Kathy) Stanley of Eldorado, Jan (Chris) Schimp of Eldorado, Melissa (Allen) Roby of Harrisburg, Lendell Ray Trammel, Jr. of Harrisburg, Debbie Mattingly of Harrisburg and Kent (Olga) Trammel of Houston, Texas; 19 grandchildren, Matthew (Sarah) Keltner, Nicholas Keltner, Brandi and Adam Stanley, Liza (Michael) King, Ryan (Megan) Schimp, Luke (Paige) Schimp, Gabe Schimp, Teri (Daniel) Porter, Jonathan Powell, stepgrandson Clay Roby, Brandon, Darien, Colten, Ariana and Elise Trammel, Amy Anderson, Eric (Shelley) Trammel and Dana Trammel; six great-grandchildren, Presli and Peyton King, Lane Schimp, Jolee and Avree Porter, and Jordan Quertermous; three brothers and sisters, Alta Rittenberry, Phillip (Brenda) Trammel, and Gary (Beverly) Trammel; brother-in-law, Nick (Donna) Rector; stepbrother, Charles (Billie) Womack, all of Harrisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Little Chapel Church in Harrisburg. Pastor Jeff Rush and Pastor Darrell Eisenhauer will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Harrisburg American Legion, the VFW and the National Guard. Visitation will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Little Chapel Church. Memorial contributions may be made to Living Israel. Envelopes will be available at the church.
