Obituary: Charles M. Gibbs

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles M. Gibbs, 93, 1008 Kerr St., Eldorado, passed away at 10:50 a.m. Wednesday, June 22, 2011, at his home.|

A resident of Eldorado, Mr. Gibbs was born Dec. 30, 1917, to the late Theodore and Fanny (O&#39;Tool) Gibbs of Muddy. He married Lucille Gibbons of Eagle Creek on June 12, 1943, and they lived in the Bethalto area for 43 years. They celebrated 68 years of marriage this past June 12.

Mr. Gibbs retired from Peavey Company -- now Con Agra -- in Alton, where he was a production superintendent. Mr. Gibbs also owned and operated a horse farm in Bethalto with his two sons, William and Robert.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, William and his wife Genie of Johnston City, and Robert of Eldorado; two granddaughters, Melisa Gibbs of Johnston City and Amie and Mark Meyer of East Alton; three great-grandchildren, Raven, Pacy and Miriah Meyer; and three sisters-in law, Thelma Gibbs, Ladonna Gibbs and Mary Lou Gibbons.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Roger Gibbs; four sisters, Grace Marlow, Aline Suddarth, Mildred Smith and Velda Loleta Sims; three sisters-in-law, Flora Raymer, Elma Marshall and Ruth Cannady; and three brothers-in-law, Otis Dale Gibbons, James Gibbons and J. B. Gibbons.

Mr. Gibbs, a Christian and member of Scott Street Baptist Church, requests memorials be made to the Scott Street Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 9 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2011, at Watson Funeral Home. Services will follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Art Watson officiating. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery.
