Wayne Reed

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Wayne Reed, 90, Harrisburg, passed away at 8:30 a.m. Monday, March 21, 2011, at his residence.

He was born April 23, 1920, in Harrisburg to the late Howard and Fannie L. (Smith) Reed. On May 15, 1945, he married Jeanne Francis, and she preceded him in death on Oct. 15, 1999. He then married Opal M. (Edwards) Heine on Nov. 28, 2000, and she survives. Wayne was a carpenter with Midland Construction for many years, a member and deacon of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church, a longtime member of the Harrisburg Volunteer Fire Department and an Army Air Force veteran of World War II.

Survivors include his wife, Opal Heine-Reed of Harrisburg; son, Ray and wife Carolyn Reed of Midlothian, Texas; son, Ron and wife Melanie Reed; son, Randy and wife Beverly Reed of Harrisburg; two stepsons, Stephen and wife Sue Heine of Metropolis and David and wife Rose Marie Heine of Lone Oak, Ky.; two brothers, George and wife Ruth Reed of Springfield, Ohio, and Donald and wife Caroline Reed of Galatia; a sister, Ruth and husband C.A. Mugge of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and eight great-stepgrandchildren.

Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Jeanne; four sisters, Helen Fink, Laverne Ziegler, Mary Davis and Jane Rose Reed in infancy; and two brothers, Hubert "Butch" Reed and Lawrence "Runt" Reed.

Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, at the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. Ron Reed officiating, assisted by the Rev. George Reed and the Rev. Roger Lipe. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. For those who wish, memorials may be made in the form of donations to McKinley Avenue Baptist Church Building Fund and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
