Richard Lewis Stanley

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Richard Lewis Stanley, 71, of Harrisburg, passed away at 5:15 a.m. Sunday, March 6, 2011, at his residence.

Richard was born on Aug. 9, 1939, in Saline County to the late Frank and Kathryn (Dalton) Stanley. Richard was a U.S. Navy veteran and a member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1058 of Harrisburg. He was formerly an iron worker and truck driver.

Richard is survived by one son, Joseph Stanley and wife Virginia of Henderson, Ky.; one granddaughter, Sarah Stanley of Henderson, Ky.; five sisters, Sharon Johnson of Sheridan, Connie Simpson, of Sheridan, Josie Castelli and husband Jim of Sheridan, Pam Schroder and husband Richard of Pittsburgh, Pa. and Cookie Gauger and Torch Wilson of Harrisburg; one brother, Tom Stout; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Kathryn Stanley; stepfather, Tom Stout Sr.; and wife, Ariel Stanley.

A Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks service will be held at 12 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, 2011 at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to noon on Wednesday, March 7, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks Lodge No. 1058. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
