</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Melinda J. Rice, 55, 905 Legion Road, Carrier Mills, died 10:12 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Mary Day officiating. Cremation will follow. Visitation is 5 p.m. to service time Tuesday at the funeral home.

She was born on July 23, 1955, in Crittendon County, Ky., to the late Homer Guy and Mary Elizabeth (Adams) Clark. She married Herman "Smokey" Rice on Feb. 14, 1992.

She worked as a private health caretaker for the elderly; she loved taking care of people.

She is survived by her husband, Herman "Smokey" Rice of Carrier Mills; three daughters, Penny Stricklin of Carrier Mills and Elizabeth Hirsch and Tina Barton, both of Harrisburg; two sons, Josh (Taquala Sanders) Reed and Phillip Rice of Carrier Mills; a brother, Donnie Clark of Elizabethtown; three sisters, Mary Anna (Henry) McGhee of Elizabethtown, Sharon Kay (Clark) Wallace of Rosiclare and Helen Ann (Benny) Orman of Cave-In-Rock; 13 grandchildren, Jon (Kellie) Smith, Eric (Cecilla) Peak Smith, Hannah Davis, Chelsea Simmons, Madison Hirsch, Cheyanna Williams, Allie Reed, Nathaniel Reed, Billy Jo Goins, Joshua Potts, Dakota Barton, Angela Barton, Derrek Rice and Nicki Murrow; and three great-grandchildren, Meghyn Smith, David Lee Robinson and James Russell.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Billy Goins; a brother, Homer Bennett Clark; and a sister, Ailene Clark.
