Donald R. 'Sarge' Emmons

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Donald R. "Sarge" Emmons, 72, of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:03 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at his residence in Harrisburg surrounded by his family.

Donald was born on Nov. 11, 1938, in Mt. Vernon, Ind., son of the late George William Gott and Stella Pauline (Emmons) Gott. He married Margaret Small on June 6, 1956, and she survives in Harrisburg.

Donald is a retired U.S. Air Force veteran; he also retired from Peabody Coal Company and the Egyptian Health Department. He was a member of the Saline Ridge Missionary Baptist Church.

In addition to his wife Margaret, he is survived by five children, Ladona Davis and husband Jim of Harrisburg, Linda Orndorff and husband Chris of Galatia, "Buddy" Emmons of Harrisburg, Paula Fulkerson and husband Jeff of Harrisburg and Beth Martin and husband Chris of Harrisburg; nine grandchildren, Jennifer Terrell, Melinda Thacker, Justin Fulkerson, Casey Bartlett, Destiney Emmons, Montana Martin, Kelcie Martin, Hannah Davis and Jaydon Emmons; four great-grandchildren; and two special cats, Calico and Bootsie.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Barry Bascom will officiate; burial will follow in Lindale Cemetery. Military graveside rites will be conducted by the Memorial Honors program from Scott Air Force Base. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1, 2011, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society&#39;s Saline and Gallatin Counties Relay for Life. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
