Sam S. Harris

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Sam S. Harris, 82, Galatia, formerly of Bourbonnais, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2010, at his home.

Services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16, 2010, at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with the Rev. Kevin Peyton officiating. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15, 2010, at the funeral home.

He was born to Sam and Blanche (Vinson) Harris in Tunnel Hill on Jan. 9, 1928.

Mr. Harris retired from the Joliet Army Ammunition Plant, where he worked after being discharged from the U.S. Army in 1947.

Surviving are his wife, Alma Jean (McDonald) Harris; one son, S. Steven Harris of Bourbonnais; one daughter, Dawn M. Collette of Galatia; four granddaughters, Jamy Collette of Chicago, Tina Harris of Bourbonnais, Melissa Zarogaza and Patricia McKenzie, both of Henderson, Nev.; one brother, Bill Harris of Raleigh; and two sisters, Virginia Malone of Galatia and Maye Cutrel of Puerto Rico.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Shelby Harris; and one sister, Jean Bradley.
