Verne E. Schultz

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Verne E. Schultz, 92, of West Frankfort departed this life 2:35 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, in Frankfort Care Center.

Verne was born Feb. 11, 1918, in Centralia, a daughter of John and Louisa (Beck) Marcum. She married Harold "Bud" Schultz on Sept. 27, 1947, and they shared 62 years together. He preceded her in death on July 3, 2009.

Verne was a member of St. John&#39;s Catholic Church where she was very active in the St. Bernadette&#39;s Sodality until her health began to fail.

She is survived by son David and wife Marsha of West Frankfort; daughter-in-law, Annette and husband James Barton of Eldorado; grandchildren, Jami and husband Garrett Thomas of Harrisburg, Luke and wife Ashley Schultz of Eldorado, Ben and Timmy Schultz of West Frankfort; and two great-grandchildren, Gage Thomas of Harrisburg and Bowen Schultz of Eldorado. She is also survived by four brothers, Stanley and wife Dorothy Marcum, Tom and wife Marilee Marcum, Joe and wife Louisa Marcum, and Donnie and wife Norma, as well as sister-in-law, Bernice Marcum, all of the Centralia area.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Jim Schultz; daughter, Jane Schultz; two sisters; and three brothers.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23, 2010, at Varis-Stone Funeral Home, 1201 E. Poplar St., with Father Trevor Murray officiating. Interment will follow at Tower Heights Cemetery. Friends of the Verne Schultz family may call at Varis-Stone Funeral Home after 9 a.m. Tuesday.
