James G. 'Sonny' Steed

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[James G. "Sonny" Steed, 72, passed away Sunday, Nov. 21, 2010, at his home in Carmi surrounded by his loving family.

He was born June 21, 1938, in Webb, Miss., the son of Pearlmon and Estelle Steed. Sonny married Carolyn June Smock on Oct. 15, 1960.

Sonny was a member of Plumbers and Steamfitters Local No. 136 in Evansville, Ind., for over 35 years. He was also a member of Carmi New Beginning Church of God. He had a lifelong love of music and traveled many years singing and recording gospel music with his family, The Singing Steeds.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, June of Carmi; a son, Barry Steed and his wife Lee Anne of Eldorado; a daughter, Penny Ballew and her husband Paul of Carmi; a son, Tim Steed and his wife Tracy of Carmi; a daughter, Kelley Steed and her partner, Jan Blade of Dover, Del.; a son, Kody Steed of Yankeetown, Ind.; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Jo and Steve "Del" Stevens of Milton, Fla. and Nancy Hyatt of Owensville, Ind.; 13 grandchildren, Karlie Pollard, Corinna, Sadie and Abbie Steed, Lauren, Kady, Evan and Bethany Nelson, Timothy and Jamie Steed, and Taylor, Trinity and Makayla Steed; two great-grandsons, Aiden Dugger and Liam Skelly; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Willis Steed; and three sisters, Billie Desper, Janice Clark and Carol Churchwell.

Funeral Services for James G. "Sonny" Steed, 72, of Carmi will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 24, 2010, at Carmi New Beginning Church of God with the Rev. Keith Moore, Pastor Barry Steed and the Rev. Jeff Rush officiating. Burial will be in the Kuykendall Cemetery near Carmi. Friends may call at Carmi New Beginning Church of God from 5 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Memorial Contributions may be made in Sonny&#39;s honor to the Alzheimer&#39;s Association, 1111 South Alpine, Suite No. 307, Rockford, Ill. 61108 and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi, who is handling arrangements.
