Carolyn Sue 'Susie' Barnhill

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Carolyn Sue "Susie" Barnhill, 68, Harrisburg, passed away at 5:45 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 14, 2010, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

She was born on Oct. 14, 1942, in East Prairie, Mo., to Paul and Howard Barnhill, who preceded her in death.

She graduated from Harrisburg High School in 1960; later, she attended Southeastern Illinois College and graduated from Southern Illinois University with a degree in accounting. For several years, she worked for the Internal Revenue Service in Chicago and San Francisco. Later, she returned to Harrisburg, where she worked at KFC for her brother and sister-in-law, retiring from there in early 2009.

Surviving family members include her sister, Mary Ann Barnhill of Kingston, Tenn.; brother, Larry (Becky) Barnhill of Harrisburg; brother, Ben (Kathy) Barnhill of Bloomington; brother, Jack Barnhill of Greenville, N.C.; brother, Paul Barnhill of Key West, Fla.; two nephews, Mike (Karen) Barnhill of Harrisburg and John (Vicki) Barnhill of Burke, Va.; two nieces, Laura (Arthur) Williams of Bloomington and Paula Barnhill of Ayden, N.C.; and several great-nieces and -nephews.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, June Barnhill, Jane Boggs and Betty Taylor; a nephew, Tom Barnhill; and a sister-in-law, Dorothy Barnhill.

As per her wishes, her body has been cremated. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 18, 2010, at Sunset Lawn Cemetery. The Rev. David Estep will officiate. There will be no visitation; those wishing to attend should gather at the cemetery. Reed Funeral Chapel is in charge of arrangements. Memorial contributions may be made to the Golden Circle or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the cemetery.
