Bertie Kanady Cummings

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Bertie Kanady Cummings, 85, formerly of West City, died at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 13, 2010, at the Fountainview Nursing Home in Eldorado.

Funeral services will be at noon Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010, in the Leffler-Poulson Funeral Home with the Rev. Bert Mitchell officiating. Burial will be in the Masonic and Odd Fellows Cemetery in Benton. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to the funeral hour Saturday.

Mrs. Cummings was born on Dec. 1, 1924, in Gallatin County, the daughter of Earl and Pearl (Bland) Kanady. She was married to Orville G. Cummings, who preceded her in death on April 15, 2000.

Bertie was a former keypuncher with Sinclair Oil in Chicago, and formerly attended the West City Baptist Church when she lived in West City.

Survivors include her son, Duane Owen and wife Donna of Tinley Park; two grandchildren, Patricia Lucky of New Lenox and Robert Owen of Tinley Park; two sisters, Juanelle and husband James Brown of Eldorado and Frieda Roe of Shawneetown; a sister-in-law, Eva Kanady of Carmi; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; and two brothers, Earl and Calvin Kanady.

Memorial contributions may be made during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure and will be accepted at the funeral home.
