Ernest E. Bowles Sr.
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ernest E. Bowles Sr., 87, of 224 Jefferson St., Shawneetown, formerly of New Haven, passed away at his residence on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2010.
Ernest was born on May 22, 1923, in Maunie to Henry and Floy Ethel (Baldwin) Bowles. He married Evelyn Jean Hill on Oct. 23, 1948, and she preceded him in death in July 1981.
Ernest served his country as a proud Marine during World War II. Ernest was retired from Babcock and Wilcox Company in Mt. Vernon, Ind. He was a member of the Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596 and the Masonic May Lodge No. 718 of Norris City.
He is survived by three daughters, Marcie and A.J. Logsdon of Shawneetown, Loretta and Doug Hogan of Orlando, Fla., Jeanetta and Bob Brazier of Shawneetown; one brother, Francis M. Bowles of New Haven; 15 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his son, Ernest E. Bowles Jr.; and 11 siblings.
Visitation for Ernest will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10, 2010, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown with Masonic rites by the May Lodge at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be at the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 11, 2010. with the Rev. Randy Vaughn officiating. Burial will be at the Union Ridge Cemetery near New Haven with military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596.
