The Rev. Earl E. Vaughn
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Rev. Earl E. Vaughn, 82, of Harrisburg, formerly of Flora, died 12:17 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 30, 2010, at Harrisburg Medical Center.
The Rev. Vaughn was born in Shawneetown on April 23, 1928 to the late Earl Vaughn and Lottie Edwards Vaughn. He married Roberta Fay Davis in Eldorado on Sept. 21, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 5, 1997. He later married the former Nina McDaniel on Aug. 15, 2000, and she survives.
The Rev. Vaughn owned and operated Vaughn Furniture in Flora and was an active Social Brethren minister. He pastored many churches throughout the area, including the Jones Social Brethren Church of Equality, Rudement Social Brethren, Rocky Branch Social Brethren, Dorrisville Social Brethren in Harrisburg, Parrish Addition Social Brethren in Eldorado and Carrier Mills Social Brethren, where he was currently pastoring.
The Rev. Vaughn had served as moderator of the Illinois Association of Social Brethren, chairman of the Ministers Retirement Fund and was instrumental in organizing the Social Brethren Church Camp. He was ordained Dec. 2, 1949 at the Parrish Addition Social Brethren Church in Eldorado.
He is survived by his wife, Nina of Harrisburg; son, Gerald (Diane) Vaughn of Flora; daughter, Janice (Terry) Felty of Carrier Mills; daughter, Susan Vaughn of Harrisburg; stepchildren, Karen, Kelly and Tracey of Ohio and Les Wallace of Harrisburg; eight grandchildren, Angie (Brian) Bennett of Harrisburg, Chad Felty of Olney, Gina Felty of Harrisburg, Michael (Michelle) Schnepper of Deitrich, Emily Schnepper of Harrisburg, Andrea (Ryan) Spicer of Flora, Alicia (Josh) Thome and Jerry Vaughn of Bourbonnais; 17 stepgrandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-stepgrandchildren; one sister, Kathryn Loderback of Omaha; and one brother, Jim Vaughn of Lake Forrest, Calif.; along with numerous extended family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Roberta; brothers, Riley Vaughn and Thomas Vaughn; great-granddaughter, Audrey Bennett; great-grandson, Clarence Grayson; and great-stepgranddaughter, Rachael Lynn Swank.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 3, 2010, at the Carrier Mills Social Brethren Church with the Rev. Jerry Wells and the Rev. Bill Jones officiating. Graveside services will precede burial 4:30 p.m. Sunday at the Elmwood Cemetery in Flora. Those attending should meet at the cemetery.
Visitation will be held 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 2, 2010, and 9 a.m. to service time Sunday at the church. At the request of the family, flowers should be omitted and, for those who wish, memorials may be made to the Carrier Mills Social Brethren Church or Retired Ministers Fund. Envelopes will be available at the church.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills.
