Lawrence Anderson Porter

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lawrence Anderson Porter passed away on Saturday, Sept. 11, 2010, at his home, surrounded by his family. He was born on April 10, 1926, in Eldorado.

Lawrence was a U.S. Army veteran and served in World War II as a corporal, Tec-5, driving generals in the motor pool. When he came back from the Army, he met his wife, Mary Johnson, married her on Feb. 19, 1950, and began their 60 years of marriage. He worked briefly at the ASCS office before he decided to return full-time to the family farm, working and producing crops for approximately 50 years. Lawrence was active in the Pioneer Seed Corporation for over 27 years, he was a member of the College Heights Baptist Church and served his community as a past school board member.

Lawrence Porter spent his life in the service of others, he loved life, his family and his church. He loved fishing with his buddies and drinking coffee with his friends. He will be missed.

He is survived by his wife, Mary of Eldorado; his two daughters, Linda Flota-Hall and husband Ken of Newburgh, Ind., and Donna Rowland and husband Kyle of Wills Point, Texas; a daughter-in-law, Tammie Porter of Eldorado; two sisters, Ann Murphy of Spring, Texas, and Wanda Kingston and husband Don of Eldorado; his grandchildren, Heather Moore and husband Greg, David Flota and wife Jessica, Luke Rowland, Cody Rowland and Jacob Rowland; and several great-grandchildren, Tyler, Dylan, Chandler, Natalie and Vincent.

Lawrence was preceded in death by his son, Larry, in October 2004; his father and mother, Raleigh and Flossie Porter; sister, Ruth Dawes; and brother, Wayne Porter.

Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Family and friends will celebrate his life at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, 2010, in the same location with the Rev. Morris Anderson officiating. Burial will be at Douglas Cemetery.

The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Jim Alexander and Dr. Anthony Stephens, Marty Coker and the Visiting Nurses Association for providing such excellent care to Lawrence Porter.
