Opal May Vaughn
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Opal May Vaughn, 90, of Rosiclare passed away 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 5, 2010, in Rosiclare Healthcare Center.
She was born May 12, 1920, in Pope County near Golconda, the daughter of William and Cassie Bebout Carter. She married John Vaughn on July 26, 1941, and he preceded her in death in 1972.
Opal lived and worked in Pope County for the first 21 years of her life working in a sewing room and also for the health department. After she married and moved to Rosiclare, she worked at the Rosiclare Grade School for more than 30 years, first as a janitor and then as a cook. She lived in the Fairview neighborhood for almost 70 years. She was a member of Mount Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church in Pope County; however, she attended the Rosiclare General Baptist Church for more than 60 years, witnessing to many. She especially enjoyed the fellowship of her church family.
Opal is survived by two children, John Richard and Vanessa Vaughn of Cave-In-Rock and Brenda Kay and James Spivey of Rosiclare; also six grandchildren, J.P., Vanessa, Cassie, Jimmy, Timmy and Suzy; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Services were held 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at the Rosiclare General Baptist Church with the Rev. Gary Hardesty officiating. Burial followed in Fluorine Cemetery. Visitation was from 1 p.m. to funeral time Sunday. The J. M. Weirauch Funeral Home of Harrisburg was in charge of all arrangements.
