Charles Alexander Price
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles Alexander Price, 80, of Springfield, formerly of eastern Kansas, passed away Monday, Aug. 2, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center.
Charles was born on Feb. 1, 1930, in rural Miami County near Paola, Kan., to Herbert Samuel and Pearl May McCaskey Price. Mr. Price attended a country grade school, Paola High School, Seward County Community College and Kansas State University. He served his country for four years in the Navy during the Korean War and received an honorable discharge as a 2nd grade storekeeper. He was a member of the American Legion Post No. 32. Mr. Price retired in 1988, after 39 years of service, from Panhandle Eastern Pipeline Company as a regional superintendent of purchasing and stores.
Charlie was an exemplary Christian man who served the Lord by serving others. He participated in mission work including church services in jails, Native American missions, Bacone College, Salvation Army, Meals on Wheels, St. John's Breadline, Brazil Gospel Fellowship Mission and built homes in Juarez, Mexico through several Christian organizations. He was a member of Cherry Hills Baptist Church and served on numerous boards, was a deacon, and taught Sunday school. He was always looking for ways to "lend a hand" to others. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He loved to garden, travel, and spend time with his grandsons and family.
Charlie married Mary Jean Plaisted on Nov. 16, 1956 and they enjoyed 49 years together before she passed July 9, 2006. They are survived by their daughter, Ki (husband Shug) McCurley of Springfield; and son, Dr. Kirk (wife Lisa) Price of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Ryan McCurley of Chatham, Eric and Cory McCurley of Springfield, Sterling, Hunter, Manning and Conley Price of Harrisburg; and a brother-in-law, Warren (wife Nadine, deceased) Smith of Lenexa, Kan.
His family will greet friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 8, 2010, at Staab Polk Memorial Home, 8855 State Route 4, Chatham and from 10 a.m. until time of his funeral ceremony at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 9, 2010, at Cherry Hills Baptist Church with Pastor Jeff Nelsen officiating. Burial will follow at Chatham Memorial Cemetery where the Inter-veterans' Burial Detail will conduct military services.
