</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Edith B. Smith, 83, McLeansboro, died at 12:55 a.m. Wednesday, July 14, 2010, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 15, 2010, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Randall Ragan officiating. Burial will be in Barker Cemetery, Broughton. Visitation is noon to service time Thursday at the funeral home.
She was bon Oct. 10, 1926, in Salem, Mo., to the late Greenberry and Minday (Tindel) Stringer. On May 17, 1975, she married Carl L. Smith in McLeansboro, and he survives.
She was a seamstress at Elders Manufacturing for 20 years and volunteered at North Fork Food Pantry in Broughton.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Eddie Barker of Galatia; a daughter, Ellen (David Ray) Rubenacker of Piopolis; two stepsons, Terry (Janet) Smith of Eldorado and Tim (Kathy) Smith of McLeansboro; six grandchildren, Brian Barker, Carmen (Barker) Royal, Monica (Rubenacker) Baker, Mindi (Rubenacker) Kolts and Jennifer and Stephanie Smith; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Alfred and John Stringer; an infant son, James Barker; and a grandson, Kevin Smith.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
