Rick Powell

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Rick Powell, 57, Stonefort, passed away at 3:05 p.m. Sunday, July 4, 2010, at his home surrounded by his family and friends. Rick was born in Saline County on May 12, 1957, to Vernie "Junior" and Louise Stricklin Powell. He was Baptist by faith and a retired coal miner. On Nov. 15, 2000, he married the former Mary Hicks, who survives.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and his parents, Vernie "Junior" and Louise Powell of Stonefort; a daughter, Lonna (Troy) Winchester of Stonefort; a stepdaughter, Debra (Gary) Threet of Harrisburg; two grandchildren, Alexa and Trenton Winchester of Stonefort; a brother, Gary Powell of Stonefort; and three sisters, Carol (Terry) Sharp of Harrisburg, Vickie (Vicki) Hill of West Frankfort and Lori (Jack Jr.) Nolen of Harrisburg.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donnie Powell.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 7, 2010, in the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, where friends may call after 9 a.m. on Wednesday. The Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate and burial will be in the Little Saline Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that memorials be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or the Special Olympics Area 14.

Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is in charge of the arrangements.
