Helen Karnes

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Helen Karnes, 85, of Harrisburg, formerly of Galatia, passed away 5:32 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010 at the Heartland Regional Medical Center in Marion.

She was born June 21, 1924, in Hamilton County to Luther and Pearl (Tate) Smith. Helen was married to Gene Karnes on December 3, 1941, in Cape Girardeau, Mo., and he preceded her in death in 1993.

Helen attended Buena Vista Church in Harrisburg, but was still a member of the First Baptist Church of Galatia. She enjoyed sitting on her front porch, crocheting, quilting with the Buena Vista Quilters Club and also enjoyed her family.

Helen is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Debbie (Richard) Rumsey of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Tyler (Amber and Hallie Bell) Rumsey, Cameron Rumsey, Clint (Lynn) Karnes and Cliff (Tammey) Karnes; five great-grandchildren, Tori, Blake, Amber, Katie and Andrey Karnes; a daughter-in-law, Faye Karnes of Omaha; a sister-in-law, Myrna Smith of Marion; and close friends Paul and Betty Phelps and Bill Richey.

She was preceded by her parents; husband; a son, Charles Karnes; a brother, Kenneth Ray Smith; and a sister, Ruby Elizabeth Carter.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 8, 2010, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation 10 a.m. until the funeral hour. The Rev. G.E. Coultas is officiating, with burial in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Buena Vista Church.
