Thomas Gasaway Hanning

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Thomas Gasaway Hanning, age 82, of Las Cruces, N.M., entered eternal life May 2, 2010, at University Terrace Good Samaritan Village.

He was born November 14, 1927, in Oklahoma City, Okla., to Oscar Henry Christian and Mary Elizabeth Gasaway Hanning.

His parents moved to Harrisburg in 1928, where Tom spent his childhood years. He was a 1945 graduate of Harrisburg High School and served his country honorably in the U.S. Army.

He received his baccalaureate degree in science from the University of Illinois. Tom spent his adult years in Texas and retired from the University of Texas-El Paso in 1985.

He married the former Sue Ann Pfleging of El Paso, Texas, and they spent their retirement years in Deming, N.M., before moving to Las Cruces, N.M.

Tom was a member of the Dona Ana Archeological Society and a volunteer at Good Samaritan Retirement Center. He enjoyed working with people, especially children. He was a Boy Scout Leader, a Sunday School Teacher for 40 years and served as a docent at the New Mexico Farm and Ranch Heritage Museum in Las Cruces, N.M.

Survivors include his wife, Sue Ann Hanning of Las Cruces, N.M.; a brother, John Richard Hanning, Wake Forest, N.C.; and a sister, Dorothy Jane Hanning, New York, N.Y.; and niece and nephew and great-niece and nephew.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Mary Lois Hanning of Harrisburg.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life service is to be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, June 5, 2010, at Good Samaritan Village Auditorium, Las Cruces, N.M.
