Police arrested Michael Shane Hobbs, 34, 1250 state Route 145 S., Harrisburg, 4:05 p.m. May 30 on four charges of attempted murder, four charges of criminal damage to property, reckless driving and aggravated battery.
A police report indicated Hobbs believed several men at 616 W. Church St. had tried to beat up his father-in-law the previous day. Hobbs went by the residence on the pretense of looking at a motorcycle for sale, according to Police Chief Bob Smith. He then got the phone number of Tracy Gwaltney, who lives at the residence, and started making threatening phone calls, according to the report. Hobbs told Gwaltney he planned to come by and damage the place or cause trouble.
Tracy Gwaltney, Philip Moore and John Gwaltney apparently waited for Hobbs at a church parking lot across from the West Church Street residence. When Hobbs arrived, he crashed through three motorcycles belonging to Gwaltney, Moore and Gwaltney and almost ran over two of the men, according to the police report. Hobbs then got out of his vehicle and charged toward the three men.
The Gwaltneys and Moore threw Hobbs to the ground and called police, according to the police report. Officer Terry Sisky and others arrived at the scene to find "total chaos," the report indicated.
Hobbs was taken to the Saline County Detention Center, where he remains awaiting a court appearance.
