Barbara J. McDowell

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[On Saturday, May 15, 2010, Barbara McDowell of Lemont passed away at the age of 80. She is preceded in death by her husband, Max V. McDowell, in 1979.

She and her husband were born and raised in Harrisburg; they moved to Lemont in 1956.

In 1962 Mrs. McDowell served on a committee to form the first Lemont Grade School band, which later included band members representing all parochial schools in Lemont. She held a major office in the Band Booster organization for 10 years. In 1967 Mrs. McDowell helped form the first pompon squad.

Barbara was a longtime member of the Lemont Garden Club that has done volunteer work throughout the village for over 50 years. In 1983 Barbara served on the Art Committee at the Lemont United Methodist Church, which initiated the "Last Supper Drama" performed on Palm Sunday, under her direction for 25 years.

Survivors include her children, Robert Max (Sue) McDowell, Jean (Rich) Dobson and Tricia (Mike) Wingerter; grandchildren, Sarah, Clark, Jori, Scott, Elizabeth and Jace; and a sister, Lee Anna Price.

She will be lying in state 9 a.m. to time of services at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010, at the Lemont United Methodist Church, 25 E. Custer St., Lemont. Interment will be in Mt. Vernon Memorial Estates. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lemont United Methodist Church. Arrangements by Markiewicz Funeral Home, P.C.
