Leonard L. Bishop
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leonard L. Bishop, 73, of Eldorado, passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 27, 2010.
Born Aug. 17, 1936, to Louis F, Bishop and Aileen (Butler) Bishop, Leonard was an only child, but grew up surrounded by his beloved cousins in Southern Illinois. During his teenage years his family moved to San Diego, Calif., where he attended high school and college. Leonard held a bachelor's degree in accounting and was a member of the Beta Chi chapter of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. After college, he served in the United States Army and returned to Southern Illinois where he has since permanently resided.
Well known by his quiet demeanor and tender heart, he was an avid reader and, although soft spoken, was certainly a capable conversant in a very broad range of topics. For years he purchased and read a book a week. Certainly an accountant at heart, Leonard enjoyed details and closely followed Wall Street. He was generous and filled with affection for his extended family, upon whom he regularly lavished sometimes extravagant gifts. Leonard thoroughly enjoyed giving.
Among the Eldorado Lions Club, where he was a member since 1975, Leonard was known as a champion of trivia and he frequently had the last word. He served as president of the Eldorado Lions Club from 1985 to 1986. Leonard was a member of First United Methodist Church of Eldorado, where his mother Aileen also attended. He was a member of the Eldorado Masonic Lodge Number 730 A.F and A.M. For years Leonard has worked at McDonald's, both in Harrisburg and Eldorado, which he pursued simply for his enjoyment and friendships.
Although recently his health has declined, his passing was quite unexpected. Leonard will be greatly missed. Funeral arrangements have been made through Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado. Services will be held Saturday, May 1, 2010, with the Rev. Julie Allison officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. with the funeral at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Wolf Creek Cemetery in Eldorado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made either to the Eldorado Lions Club or the First United Methodist Church of Eldorado.
