Jane Carney Strong

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Jane Carney Strong, 91, McLeansboro, formerly of Shawneetown, died 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital, McLeansboro.

Mrs. Strong was cremated, as per her personal request. A funeral Mass will be said 10 a.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown with Father Mark Stec officiating. Interment of ashes will be in Westwood Cemetery, Shawneetown. Visitation is 9 a.m. to service time Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Shawneetown. Arrangements are in the charge of Harre Funeral Home, McLeansboro.

She was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Shawneetown to the late John Merritt and Madeline (Elsasser) Carney. On May 3, 1947, she married Robert E. Strong at St. Benedict's Catholic Church in Evansville, Ind., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 22, 1967.

She was a homemaker and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Shawneetown. She attended St. Clement's Catholic Church in McLeansboro. She was the society editor of the Gallatin County Democrat. Jane loved gardening, cooking and taking trips to the levee to watch the barges.

She is survived by two daughters, Terry Strong Bohleber and companion Ralph Hovanec of Morristown, Tenn. and Nancy Strong Harre and husband Mike of McLeansboro; four granddaughters, Brandi Bohleber of Macon, Ga., Nikki Bohleber of Nashville, Tenn., Erin Kelly of McLeansboro and Claire Warren and husband Matt of Glen Carbon; three grandsons, Chris Bohleber and wife Sarah of Knoxville, Tenn., Andy Kelly and wife Krystal of McLeansboro and Mitch Kelly and fiancee Kandi Webb of McLeansboro; seven great-grandchildren, Isaac and Bella Bohleber, Olivia and Max Kelly, Kadyn and Bradyn Kelly and Gavin Kelly; a niece, Joy Rowe of Rockford; and friends too numerous to mention.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Helen Frances Rotello.
