Wallace Kent George
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Wallace Kent George, 54, of Linton, Ind., passed away at 9:28 p.m. on Sunday, March 14, 2010, at his residence in Linton, after a five-year battle with cancer.
He was born April 14, 1955, in Linton, the son of James and Cleo (Baker) George.
George was a 1973 graduate of Switz City High School. He went to work in the coal mines in May 1993 at Triad Mining, working as an end dump truck driver. It was here where he met a great group of guys who became his family. A few who cannot go unmentioned are Don "Woody" Woods, Mark "Hammer" and B.C. Cullison, Steve "Wobbles" Denu, Joe and Tim Aull, Bill Mattingly, Ben "Dutch" Vaal, Bill "Hawkeye" Mowery, Richard "Modge" Edwards, Theodore "Tater" Montague, Diamond, Rodman, P-daddy and Swipe Price, Don Hughes "Hughsie" and R.T., Jeff, "Sunshine" Sermersheim. Sunshine was someone whom George admired and respected. He taught him the value of friendship, family, and how they made him a more compassionate and caring person. Then there is Paul "Slim" Bright. If ever there was anyone closer to George, it was Slim. George gave Slim the true title of Brother. He never left George and Lura's side, even at the end.
George spent seven years in the U.S. Army, and there he met lifelong best friends, Nathan "Petey" and Carol Hill of Virginia.
He was a member of the Elks Lodge No. 866, where he met a group of guys who became brothers to him. They have done so much for him in the last five years, watching over him. He was also a member of American Legion No. 22 and Loyal Order of Moose No. 1434. George's love of the country came from his Granny. They spent many a summer day with an old cane pole and a can of worms, fishing and enjoying God's gifts. It was through this wonderful woman that he met his friend and brother, Gene Chandley, who was the true grandson of Granny.
He is survived by his best friend and wife of 17 years, Lura (Deuel) George. Other family members who cared for him deeply are his mother, Cleo Watson of Linton; daughters, Starr (Wade) Chadwick of Oklahoma, Randi Lace George of Linton and Camilla Mayo of North Carolina; a son, Kent Commando George of Linton; stepson, Christopher (Amy) Lehman of Baltimore, Md., stepdaughter, Jennifer (Jeff) Cain of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Aiden Bisson, Rachel, Allison, Katie and Jake Lehman, and Ashley, Bailey and Carey Cain; sisters-in-law, Rebecca (Blaine) Mauney, Linda (Wallace) Ayotte, and Sheryl (John) Hurd; and a brother-in-law, Rodney Deuel.
He was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Ruth and Doris George; his Granny, Lucille Vest; his stepfather, Reed Watson; and a brother-in-law, Tom Deuel.
There will be a celebration of life gathering at the Linton Elks Lodge from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday, March 19, 2010, to honor the memory and to celebrate with the telling of everyone's personal stories of their relationship with George. All family and friends are welcome.
