Senior Keturah Tanner took first in editorial writing and freshman Halona Brooks took first in editorial cartooning.

Cierra Goolsby, a senior, took second in feature writing. Junior Kellyn Sirach took third in advertising.

Honorable mentions were presented to sophomore Lakynn Walker and freshman Olivia Womack in news and senior Blaire Clark in senior interview.

Entries for the mail-in portion of the contest were not judged because the package was destroyed in the mail, according to Purple Clarion sponsor Cathy Wall. A few entries were found loose by the Postal Service, but it was too late to enter them in the contest. SISPA plans to alert advisers when their entries have arrived next year.

The SISPA competition involved 18 schools.

The newspaper staff will compete in the IHSA sectional Saturday, April 24 at Southern Illinois University-Carbondale. Those who qualify will advance to the state championship Aril 30 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
