Verna Boyd

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Verna Boyd, 88, died at 10:02 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, 2010, at Blu-Fountain Manor in Godfrey.

Born Feb. 2, 1921, in Harrisburg, she was the daughter of Henry and Myrtle (Crabbe) McGuire. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hillsboro. On Feb. 5, 1939, in Harrisburg, she married Robert F. Boyd. He preceded her in death in 1988.

Surviving is a daughter, Karen Shoemaker of Alton; three grandchildren, Kim Sutter, Nathan Shoemaker and Joann Richardson; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathleen Reynolds; one niece; and several nephews.

She was preceded in death by her brother, Bruce McGuire; and three sisters, Polly Petrusha, Beulah Rice and Blanche Zimmer.

Visitation will be from 4 p.m. until time of memorial service at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at Gent Funeral Home in Alton. Pastor David Weimer will officiate. Memorials may be made to the Arthritis Foundation or the National Kidney Foundation.
