Clyde W. Summers
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Clyde W. Summers, 84, McLeansboro, died 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at his residence.
Services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at Harre Funeral Home in McLeansboro with the Rev. Tony Auxier officiating. Burial will be in Little Springs Cemetery west of Dale. Visitation is 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010, at the funeral home.
He was born May 15, 1925, in Dale to the late Lealon R. and Mabel (Mann) Summers. On Oct. 11, 1945, in McLeansboro he married the former Doris Hammontree, who preceded him in death.
He loved farming, raising cattle, hunting and fishing. He was a past member of McLeansboro VFW. Clyde taught in several one-room schools in Hamilton County. He was principal at Dahlgren and also taught at Flannigan School. He attended Little Springs Church and served in the U.S. Coast Guard during World War II.
He is survived by two daughters, Betty Jean (Dennis) Myers of Harrisburg and Brenda Roberts of McLeansboro; a granddaughter, Teresa (Jeff) Ballantyne of Ashley; four grandsons, Richard Myers of Harrisburg, Michael Myers of Marion, Clyde Everett Roberts of Nashville, Tenn., and Matthew (Susan) Roberts of Norris City; three great-grandchildren, Jayne Ballantyne and Damion and Bladon Roberts; a sister, Betty (Ted) VanWinkle of McLeansboro; a brother, Bill (Linda) Summers of Colombia Falls, Mont.; and several nephews and nieces.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Wayne Summers; and a brother, Clare Summers.
