Mildred 'Jannie' Whitlock

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mildred "Jannie" Whitlock passed on to her heavenly home on Wednesday, Jan.20, 2010.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, James L. "Jake" Whitlock.

Born in Southern Illinois, she and Jake raised their children in Swayzee, Ind.

She is survived by the three children and their spouses and families, James Michael (Diane) Whitlock, Jan (John) Tindall and Gordon (Sara) Whitlock; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Mildred "Jannie" was a homemaker until her oldest started college. She started college and finished first in her class. She went on for a master's degree in English and taught at Marion High School. After a near-fatal car crash in 1976 she was caretaker for her husband, who passed away in 2001.

Mildred was a wonderful wife, Mother and friend.

Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 22, 2010, at Hockemeyer and Miller Funeral Home, 6131 St. Joe Road, Fort Wayne, Ind. 46835.

A memorial is planned at Robinson Chapel Union Chapel at Tonkel Road 12707 Tonkel Road, Fort Wayne, Ind. 46845 at 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, 2010.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Swayzee Public Library, Swayzee, Ind. or Robinson Chapel United Methodist Church.
