Lorene Chenoweth

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lorene Chenoweth of Marion, formerly of Harrisburg, died on Jan. 2, 2010, just two weeks before her 96th birthday. She was born on Jan. 16, 1914, to Jack and Leora (Barker) Sweat in Saline County. Lorene was the oldest of seven children.

Lorene married Henry Chenoweth on Sept. 13, 1933. Together they had two daughters, Norma and Phyllis.

She was employed as a cook at Harrisburg Hospital, Lightner Hospital and the Harrisburg Medical Center. She retired in 1979.

Lorene continued to be an active part of her family throughout her life. She brought love and attention to five generations.

She is survived by 31 direct descendants, her daughters, Norma Jenkins and Phyllis Dutton of Marion, son of her heart, Jack Jenkins of Marion; grandchildren, Debby and Jim Pape, Tammy Jenkins, Julie and Dennis White and Brent Dutton, all of Marion; great- and great-great-grandchildren: David and Trinka Pape; Joshua, Becca and Aaron; Nathaniel Pape, Grace and Joseph; Kaleb Pape, Judah and Mary; Kate and Ralph Dunham, Ben and Jacob Gwaltney, Gregory Adam and Samuel Dunham; Matthew Jenkins; Justin and DeeEllen White; Trista Dutton; Braci Dutton; and Ean White. She is also survived by siblings, Pauline and Albert Harris, and Wanda Abney; plus numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry; her parents; and four siblings.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 6, 2010, at Reed Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Marlin Otte officiating; burial will follow in Bankston Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to service time at Reed Funeral Chapel. For those who wish, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois and envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
