Leslie B. Reeves
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leslie B. Reeves, 85, of Herod, died at 1:48 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, in the Western Baptist Hospital, Paducah, Ky.
He was born in Mounds on July 21, 1924, to the late Daniel L. and Goldie (Timmons) Reeves.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda L. (Morse) Reeves of Herod; four loving children, including Vicki (Jim) Murphy of Joliet, Reginald (Karen) Reeves of Sesser, Samuel Reeves of Galatia and Leslie B. Reeves II of Panama City, Fla.
He was the proud grandfather of Damon Guertin of Joliet, Amy Guertin (Robbie) Northrup of Crest Hill, Kim (Greg) Weeks and Rodney (Karen) Cabaness, both of West Frankfort and Emily Reeves of Galatia.
He was the loving great-grandfather of seven, including McKenna and Caleigh Guertin of Plainfield, Derek Goncharoff of Crest Hill, Matt and Kyle Weeks and Bryce and Payton Cabaness of West Frankfort.
He is survived by a brother, Daniel L. (Marguerite) Reeves of Carrier Mills.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jewitt Reeves; a sister, Louise Hunter; and a grandson, Ryan Reeves.
A veteran of World War II, he honorably served in the South Pacific in the U.S. Navy and later served as a sergeant first class in the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a retired member of the United Mine Workers of America, a charter member of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) and a past Boy Scout leader of Troop No. 17 in Carrier Mills.
Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 21, 2009, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills with the Rev. Harrison "Buddy" Peyton officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Grove Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at the funeral home.
