Dr. Larry 'Val' Valgene Gibbons
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Dr. Larry "Val" Valgene Gibbons, 77, Mount Vernon, died 3:56 p.m. Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at Barnes Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Mo.
Services will be held 10 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2009, at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Jack Lucas and Pastor Ryan Gentles officiating. Burial will be in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn. Full military honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post No. 141. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at the funeral home.
He was born March 18, 1932, in Harrisburg to Jesse Gibbons and Oma Tison. He married Ann Wilson on Aug. 21, 1954, in Harrisburg.
Dr. Gibbons served in the United States Army, was owner and operator of ARDL and was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Ann Gibbons of Mount Vernon; a son, Grant Gibbons and wife Marsha of Tallahassee, Fla.; three daughters, Valerie Jenkins and husband Randy of Mount Vernon, Lisa Gentles and husband Todd of Houston, Texas and Cathy Gillespie and husband Dan of Plainfield; 10 grandchildren, Tony Jenkins and wife Kimberly of Mount Vernon, Nathan Jenkins and wife Megan of Georgia, Mitchell Jenkins and wife Riki of Mississippi, Eric Gentles and wife Emily of Texas, Nick Gentles and wife Heather of Texas, Ryan Gentles and wife Lindsay of Texas, Katie Gillespie and Laney Gillespie both of Texas, Audrey Gillespie of Bloomington and Melia Gibbons of Mount Vernon; four great-grandchildren, Mason Gentles, Madi Gentles, Leila Jenkins and Sophia Gentles; a brother-in-law, Caryle "Mike" Michel of Mount Vernon; a sister-in-law, Pett Wilson of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
