Eleanor Bird

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Eleanor Bird, 89, of Warren, Mich., formerly of Galatia, passed away at 9:25 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, 2009, in Warren, Mich.

She was born in St. Louis, Mo., on April 28, 1920, to the late William and Hildegard Newman. Eleanor was married to Wayne Bird and he preceded her in July 1994.

She was the postmistress in Galatia in the early 1960s. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Galatia and a past worthy matron of the Galatia Eastern Star.

Eleanor is survived by five daughters, Patsy King of St. Louis, Mo., Sue Bush of Michigan, Shirley Jones of Whittington, Saundra Henderson of Paducah, Ky., Peggy McClanahan; and a son, Rodney Bird of Harrisburg. There are nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and three great-stepgrandchildren; and two brothers, Robert and Gail Newman, both of St. Louis, Mo.

Preceded are the parents, husband and one brother, William Newman.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, 2009, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia with visitation from 10 a.m. Friday until the funeral hour at the funeral home with the Rev. Kevin Peyton officiating. Burial in the Ebenezer Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
