John W. Grant

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[John W. Grant, 67, passed away after a courageous battle with cancer at 5:05 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at Fountains Nursing Center in Marion.

John was born May 7, 1942, in Herrin to John R. "Pete" and Geraldine (Felkins) Grant. He first married Carletta Marks on Oct. 15, 1966, in Royalton. Carletta passed away on May 12, 2004. He married Ruth Cremeens Stuart on Dec. 16, 2006, in Gallatin County. Ruth survives.

John was retired, having been a route salesman for Frito Lay for many years. He was a member of the First Church of God in Herrin. He also served with the Army National Guard for six years. He enjoyed raising cattle. He was proud of his family and enjoyed spending time with grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth Grant of Johnston City; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Jan Grant of West Frankfort; daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Rich Lentz of Carterville; two stepsons, Allen Glover of Equality and Tim Glover and wife Jenn of Arnold, Mo.; three grandchildren, Zayne Grant of West Frankfort and Brennan and Macey Lentz of Carterville; two stepgrandchildren, Zach and Kyle Buckman of Equality; mother, Geraldine Grant of Johnston City; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Howard and Alice Grant of Herrin and David and Jeanne Grant of Galatia; sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Bud Steinmetz of Christopher; also survived by several nieces and nephews and many close friends.

He was preceded in death by his father; first wife, Carletta Grant; and an infant daughter, Deborah Grant.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 1, 2009, at Pyle Funeral Home in Johnston City with the Rev. Dan Smith officiating. Interment will follow in Miners Cemetery in Royalton.

Visitation will be 5 to 9 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, 2009, at Pyle Funeral Home.
