Raymond Newton

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Raymond Newton, 79, of Harrisburg went home quietly to be with the Lord 2:20 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 1, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Johnston City, the son of the late George and Nellie Alexander Newton. On Sept. 25, 1954, he married the former Dora Killman in Harrisburg.

Raymond retired from the Illinois Central Railroad and the City of Harrisburg Water and Sewer Department. He was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church where he had been a deacon for 40 years and Sunday school Superintendent.

Surviving him is his wife, Dora of Harrisburg; son, Steve Newton of Harrisburg; daughter, Amy and husband Rod Wallace of Harrisburg; brother, Roy and wife Lela Mae Newton of McLeansboro; two grandchildren, Chris and LaShonna Wallace of Harrisburg and Sarah Wallace of Harrisburg; and one great-grandchild, Cayden Wallace of Harrisburg. He was also survived by two sisters-in-law, Ruby Wilson and Flora Johnson, both of Harrisburg. He was Uncle Newt to several nieces and nephews, all of whom loved him very much.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph and Robert Newton; and two sisters, Lorene Grant and Naomi Carter.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 3, 2009, at the Dorrisville Baptist Church with the Rev. Dewayne Taylor officiating and burial in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Dorrisville Baptist Church. The J.M. Weirauch Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
