Harrisburg puts 10 players on all-conference team

Senior infielder Christian Cummins, who also made the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Association First Team All-State squad, headlines the group of Southern Illinois River-to-River (Ohio Division) All-Conference team.

"I thought it showed how the coaches in the conference felt about the quality of our players," said Harrisburg AD Jay Thompson in a phone interview.

Cummins was joined by fellow seniors B.J. Davis and Dylan Rasch, juniors Kollin Dowdy, Cain Sheldon, Dawson Montfort, Noah King and Reid Roper, and sophomores Isaac Behme and Keelin Rasch.

Cummins, who Thompson described as a great leader and talented ballplayer, will take his skills to the University of Illinois next season.

The Bulldogs posted a 27-5 record this season, a season that ended in disappointment, however, after falling to Anna-Jonesboro in the Class 2A regional finals in Carterville. The 5-4 defeat came nearly two weeks after Harrisburg routed the Wildcats, 15-2, in a six inning game.

"The loss at the end of the year is not indicative or a fair assessment of our season. The kids played very well all year and had one tough day," Thompson said.

Despite losing three seniors to graduation, Harrisburg will return seven all-conference underclassmen, including four seniors-to-be.
