Iris Turner

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Iris Turner of Stonefort, in the Dykersburg community, passed away at 1:58 p.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, in Herrin Hospital.

She was born on Aug. 1, 1917, in Stonefort to the late Curtis and Julie Richey Harris. She married Orbera Turner on Sept. 19, 1936, and he preceded her in death in April 1987.

Iris was a Christian lady and a long time member of Indian Camp Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in law, James and Herta Turner of Washington and Douglas and Pamela Turner of Stonefort; eight grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Ruth Harris Tobe and Wanda Dunn of Carrier Mills; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a brother.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday June 9, 2009, at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills; the Rev. Michael Garrett and the Rev. Matthew Bebout will officiate with burial in Coal Bank Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends after 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

The family's preferred choice of remembrance is memorials in her name to the Coal Bank Springs Cemetery Fund. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
