Leslie Pearce

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leslie Pearce, 84, of Carrier Mills, formerly of Harrisburg, passed away at 3:50 p.m. Wednesday, May 27, 2009, at Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

Les was born on Sunday, June 8, 1924 in White County to the late Vernal R. and Pearl (Austin) Pearce. He married Virginia Hilliard on Saturday, June 14, 1947, and she preceded him in death on Wednesday, May 1, 2002.

Les was a retired coal miner. Les was a member of the Dorrisville Baptist Church, the Harrisburg Lions Club and the Harrisburg Fraternal Order of Odd Fellows.

Les is survived by one daughter, Sharon Hazley and husband Richard of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Kristin Melton and husband Paul of Norris City and Andrea McGee and husband Bob of Mt. Prospect; and four great-grandchildren, MacKenzie Melton, Mazzi Melton, Karly McGee and Olivia McGee.

Les was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Virginia; and one brother, Alexander Pearce.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 30, 2009 at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Dewayne Taylor will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorials may be made to Dorrisville Baptist Church or Illinois Baptist Children's Home.
