Ralph Norman Carey
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Ralph Norman Carey, 69, of Manteno, formerly of Harrisburg, died Thursday, April 9, 2009, in Manteno.
He was born in Herrin to the late Orien Carey and Lucille (Younkin) Lewis, who survives. He married Eva Carey on Sept. 10, 1990, in Morganfield, Ky.
He was a retired coal miner and served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1960. He enjoyed golfing and fishing.
He is survived by his mother, Lucille Lewis of Herrin; his wife, Eva Carey of Manteno; three sons, Brad (Carrie) Carey of Herrin, Jeff Carey of Goreville and Brian (Gina) Carey of Oakdale; a daughter, Julie (Jeff) Menessee of Marion; two stepsons, Joe (Debbie) Patterson of Galatia and Dion (Claudia) Patterson of Manteno; three stepdaughters, Kim (Chuck) Luton of Dover, Del., Angela (Patrick) Dumaw of Bourbonnais and Rhonda (Mike) Frick of Johnston City; a brother, Everett (Mildred) Younkin; a sister, Norma Welch; two uncles, Loyd (Mary Ellen) Younkin and Norman Younkin; an aunt, Ruth Drew; 20 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and other survivors include his dog and loving companion, Sugar.
He was preceded in death by his father, Orien Carey; stepfather, John Lewis; aunts, Lola Carey and Nellie Younkin; and uncles, Harry Younkin, Dennis Younkin, Leon Drew and Howard Younkin.
Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at West Monroe Apostolic Church in Herrin. A celebration of life service will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at Saline County Golf Course in Eldorado. Family and friends are invited to attend.
