Dorothy Mae Beard
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Dorothy Mae Beard, 90, of Elkville, passed away at 2:30 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2009, at her residence.
Dorothy was a homemaker. She had also worked at Luster Plant in Murphysboro. She was a member of the Elkville Christian Church for 33 years. She had played in the Murphysboro Senior Citizens Kitchen Band for 10 years and loved dancing.
She was born May 24, 1918, at Mt. Carbon, the daughter of Thurman and Edith (Underwood) Doolin. She married Harold A. Beard on Sept. 3, 1948, at Piggott, Ark., and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 1999.
She is survived by three daughters, Karen Leffler of Marion, Bonnie Sue Hopson of Equality and Rheba Jane Sauerbrunn of Marion; one sister, Alice Martin and husband Glenn of Du Quoin; one brother, Gerald Doolin and wife Virginia of Du Quoin; eight grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four sisters and one brother.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at the Elkville Christian Church in Elkville with Bro. Jerry Aken officiating.
Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, April 6, 2009, at the Elkville Christian Church in Elkville and from noon until the time of service at the church on Tuesday.
Burial will be at the Hallidayboro Cemetery at Hallidayboro.
