Billy Powell
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Billy Powell, 75, of the Harco and Galatia area, passed away 7:50 a.m. Friday, March 27, 2009, at the St. Mary's Hospital in Evansville, Ind.
He was born April 9, 1933, in Harrisburg to the late Harry and Elva (Johnson) Powell. He married Mary (Dunning) Powell on Oct. 27, 1988, in Hendersonville, Ky.
He worked as a mine examiner for Peabody Coal for 30 years and was also a full-time farmer. He was a member of the Stonefort General Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife, Mary of 20 years; five children, Cathy (Wayne) Hemrick of Arizona, Beth of Missouri, Eva (Joe) Martin of Brookport, Billy (Brook) Carlton of Galatia and Ginny (Keith) Debose of Harco; and nine grandchildren.
He was preceded by his parents; and a sister, Bernice Hendrin.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 31, 2009, at the Ebenezer Community Church with visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 30, 2009, at the Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. The Rev. Steve Dunning will officiate and burial will be in the Ebenezer Cemetery.
The family asks that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Association.
