Robert 'Bob' W. Scates

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Robert "Bob" W. Scates, 59, of 1101 Burnett St., Eldorado, died Feb. 13, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Dec. 22, 1949, to the late William "Bill" and Juanita (Holt) Scates. On April 7, 1972, he married the former Vicki Tyner, and she survives.

He was a heavy equipment mechanic for Southeastern Illinois Electric Co-op in Eldorado. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado. He loved spending time with his family and friends and woodworking and gardening.

Bob is survived by his wife, Vicki Scates of Eldorado; three daughters, Susan (David) Ferguson of Houston, Texas, Cindy (Jim) McCarty of Marion and Marsha (Wes) Watson of Chicago; and three grandchildren, Adelyn and Anna McCarty and Bryce Ferguson.

Also surviving are two brothers, Bill and Karon Scates of Shawneetown and Tony and Marzel Scates of Shawneetown; five sisters, Judy Scates of New York, Kay (Bob) Charlton of Shawneetown, Sue (Bud) Kimbro of Ridgway, Helen (Ron) Rushing of Shawneetown and Debbie (David) Fleisher of New York; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Scates.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2009, at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Eldorado with Father Ignatius Okonkwo officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice of Southern Illinois and left at the funeral home.
