N. Bernice Carpenter

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[N. Bernice Carpenter, 90, of Hoffman Estates, former many year resident of the Shawneetown- Harrisburg areas, Joliet, Orland Park and Leisure World in Mesa, Ariz., died Monday, Feb. 2, 2009, at the Central Dupage Hospital in Winfield.

Bernice was born in Shawneetown, June 15, 1918. She was the daughter of Henry and Allie (nee Catlin) Gross. Bernice worked in the retail clothing industry for most of her professional career and was a many year faithful employee of Mark Shale Clothiers. She was an avid card player and later in her life learned how to play golf and had a great love for the game.

Survivors include her daughter, Beverly (the late Tom) Lawson whom she made her home with in Huntley; and a granddaughter, Lori (Ron) Carrington of Cambridge, Wis. Bernice is also survived by her great-grandchildren, Ashley and Connor Carrington, and Kenneth and Kim Adams and her brother; Henry (Dolly) Gross of Lombard.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Carpenter; her daughter, Patricia Adams; a grandson, Kevin Adams; her son-in-law, Tom Lawson; and her sisters, Helen Lambert and Eutha DeGiacinto.

Bernice's family has decided to mourn their loss privately. There will be no public visitation or service. The Miller Funeral Home, West Dundee, is assisting the family with all arrangements.
