</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Peggy Mezo, 60, of 508 E. Walnut St., Carrier Mills, died 5:08 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, 2009, at Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.

Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Visitation is 10 a.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.

She was born on July 29, 1948, in Eldorado to the late Gilbert and Elnora (Furlong) Hedger.

She was a certified nurse's assistant and attended Carrier Mills Baber Chapel A.M.E.

She is survived by a son, Chad (Carrie) Fitzgerald of Stonefort; two brothers, Sonny Hedger of California and Roger Hedger of Eldorado; three sisters, Suzie (Archie) Carter of Stonefort, Patty Hook of Indiana and Jackie (Hubert) Casteel of McLeansboro; seven grandchildren, Jessica N. Fowler, Stephanie L. Fowler, George Fowler III, Dylan J. Fowler, Ethan Fitzgerald, Hallee M. Fitzgerald and Aaron J. Fitzgerald; and three great-grandchildren, Christian N. Murphy, Jaycob Logan Fowler and Matthew Kane Fowler.

She was preceded in death by a son, George Fowler Jr.; and two brothers, Jimmy Hedger and Richard Hedger.
