Gladys Lorene McNew
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Gladys Lorene McNew, 90, of Harrisburg, passed away at 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.
She was born on Sept. 26, 1918, in Saline County to the late William S. and Blanch (Milburn) Tanner. On March 31, 1934, she married Claude McNew and he preceded her in death on Sept. 4, 1991.
Gladys was a member of the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church, and the McKinley Avenue Baptist Quilters.
Surviving family members include a son, Bill (Joan) McNew of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Keith (Debbie) McNew of Newburgh, Ind., Brian (Cindy) McNew of Waterloo and Sheri (Mark) Mathis of Harrisburg; great-grandchildren, Kendyl McNew, Katherine Hite, Kim (Jimmy) Bastin, Nicholas and Dylan McNew, Bethany and Blake Mathis; two sisters, Nellie Mae (the Rev. John) Black and Mabel Clements; several nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Agnes Murphy and Marada K. Tanner.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Blaine Welker will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. John Black. Burial will be in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church Quilters or Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
