John R. Whitten

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[John R. Whitten, 83, longtime resident of Norris City, passed away at his home, Monday, Jan. 5, 2009, after an extended illness.

John was born in Norris City on Nov. 22, 1925, to the late James Whitten and Lela (Heck) Whitten.

He owned and operated Whitten Plumbing for many years until retirement. He served his country in World War II in the Army where he was a tank driver. John was a very compassionate and caring person who helped a lot of people in a very quiet way. He will be missed by the community.

He is survived by one brother, James E. Whitten of California.

Graveside service for John will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, 2009, at Oddfellows Cemetery in Norris City with military rites. The Rev. Roger Price will officiate.
