Olive Davis

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Olive Davis, 96, of Ridgway, passed away 1:35 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, at Heritage Center in Evansville, Ind.

She was the daughter of Henry Lorten Files and Anna Wilson Files, and was born on May 11, 1912, at Mill Shoals. While she was in high school she moved with her family to Quinter, Kan.

She was married to the Rev. Carl S. Davis on November 24, 1938. Together, they served several churches in Southern Illinois and Great Rivers conferences of the United Methodist Church, including Hartford-South Roxana, East St. Louis Bond Avenue, Irvington Charge, Karnak Charge, Carrier Mills-Stonefort, McLeansboro-Concord, Enfield Circuit, Okawville, Sesser, Vienna, Shawneetown and Ridgway.

Carl preceded her in death on August 19, 2000. Olive was active in Christian education. She taught Sunday school and served as a lab instructor in the Southern Illinois Conference. At her death, she was a member of the Ridgway United Methodist Church.

Sewing, quilting, music and genealogy were her favorite pastimes. She is survived by four of her children and their spouses, C. Raydean and Myla Sue Davis of Bloomington, Charlotte and Tom Niksch of Evansville, Ind., Henry and Tammy Davis of Hopkinsville, Ky., and Cletus and Lola Davis of Lebanon, Ohio; a daughter-in-law, Renette Davis of Monee; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Paul Davis, and four sisters.

Services for Olive will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Ridgway United Methodist Church with visitation from 10 a.m. to service time. The Rev. Roger Knox will be officiating with burial in Shrewsbury Cemetery at Mill Shoals. Vickery Funeral Chapel in Ridgway is charge of arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the following: Preacher's Aid Society, Davis Scholarship at Garret Theological Seminary or the music ministry of your local church.
