The Rev. Bertis J. Reynolds
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Rev. Bertis J. Reynolds, 83, of Harrisburg, went home to be with the Lord at 6:40 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2008.
He was born one of five children in Saline County on Aug. 1, 1925, to the late Bert and Etta (Duncan) Reynolds. On May 18, 1944, he married Ova Lee Dowdy and she survives. Bertis was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Bertis was a longtime member of the Spring Valley Social Brethren Church and a Social Brethren preacher and pastor of several churches from 1965 until bad health forced his retirement. He was a self-employed carpenter, a World War II veteran, and a member of the Carpenter's Union.
He is survived by his wife of 64 1/2 years, Ova Lee Reynolds of Harrisburg; son, Gary Reynolds of Harrisburg; daughter, Connie (Danny) Morse of Harrisburg; sister, Lucille (John) Hancock of Harrisburg; brother, Bill Reynolds of Owensboro, Ky.; two grandchildren, Amy (Aron) Edwards and Tara (Andy) Freebourn; and two great-grandchildren, Brayden Edwards, and Paislee Freebourn.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harold Reynolds; and a sister, Beulah Martin.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008, at the Spring Valley Social Brethren Church. The Rev. Jerry Wells will officiate and will be assisted by the Rev. John Hancock. Burial will be in Spring Valley Cemetery with military rites by the VFW and American Legion Post No. 167. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Spring Valley Cemetery. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
