Sally Suzanne Horton

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Sally Suzanne Horton, 71, of 450 Liberty Road, Harrisburg, died at 11:53 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 16, 2008, at her home.

She was born on May 2, 1937, at her Ingram Hill home to the late Joseph and Margaret (Hall) Smith. She married Marvin Horton on Aug. 26, 1960.

Sally had a wonderful childhood growing up in Ingram Hill. After graduating from Harrisburg High School she went to Southern Illinois University, where she graduated with a bachelor's degree in education. While at SIU, Sally was very active with the Baptist Student Union. She remained an avid supporter of the BSU and attended many alumni functions until recently.

Sally started her teaching career in Carlsbad, N.M. She returned to Harrisburg to teach at Bayliss, Malan Jr. High and East Side. She especially enjoyed finishing up at East Side with her Title I reading classes.

Sally was an active member of the Liberty Baptist Church, where she was pianist, Sunday School teacher, and Missions Director. She was also a member of the Garden Heights Homemaker Extension Club, Saline Baptist Association of Women on Mission and SIU Baptist Student Union Booster Club.

Sally is survived by her husband, Marvin Horton of Harrisburg; son, Brad Horton and wife Kandie of Bellefontaine, Ohio; daughter, Melissa Belt and husband Brian of Harrisburg; sister, Corinne Lindsey of Winston-Salem, N.C.; sister, Audrey Coyle and husband John of Colorado Springs, Colo.; five grandchildren, Zachary, Mackenzie and Jacob Horton and Brandon and Brianna Belt; and several special nieces and nephews and their families.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at the Liberty Baptist Church. The Rev. Ron Reed will officiate; burial will follow in Liberty Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg and noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2008, at the Liberty Baptist Church.
